Love Is a Two-Way Street

I read this blurb about how much our bodies love us. The reasoning being that our bodies are always working to keep us alive: our blood clots when we cut ourselves to create a seal against infection and begin healing, antibodies combat invaders that upset our various systems and would make us ill, our bones re-bond when we fracture or break them, our lungs keep us breathing even when we’re asleep and not aware of what our bodies are doing. Our bodies work really hard, just trying to keep us going, day after day.

But sometimes, it seems more like my body is saying, “yeah, I love you … I’m just not *in love* with you.” Sigh.

One of my goals for this year has been to focus on my health more, to actually *own* my body rather than treating it like a rental property. I wanted to exercise more, get outside more, do more yoga, try meditating, and attempt to go gluten free. So far, I’ve manage to do only one of those things – more exercise – but it’s all fun exercise, like tap dancing, some light tennis, and walking the dogs. I’ve actually done less yoga instead of more, and my attempts to go gluten free have typically lasted less than 24 hours. And I think my body is expressing its resentment for my neglect. As well it should.

Love that lasts is a two-way street.
